The UNIQUES is a heart-warming story that involves a joint venture between Trollbeads and artisans around the world. The concept was originated out of a vision of infusing commerce, hope, and new life into communities that would not otherwise have had the opportunity. The result is beautiful, handmade glass beads sharing a world of stories and dreams, each one different from the other…

UNIQUES are a truly special part of the Trollbeads collection - each bead is one of a kind, just like the people and stories they represent.
These exquisite glass beads are crafted from high-quality materials, showcasing vibrant colours and captivating patterns that make every bead a unique masterpiece.
Despite its humble size, a glass bead contains a world of details and colours. All Trollbeads glass beads including UNIQUES are handmade in front of a red-hot, open flame. Each colour reacts differently to the heat, and the creation requires a technique and craftsmanship that makes every bead a small piece of art. Often, 100 steps go into the creation of a UNIQUES bead.
A unique journey...
A creative journey across three continents. Starting workshops ended up making a real difference in many people’s lives. All came from different starting points but shared the same vision: to provide work for people, who had an extraordinary need for it. This is the story about these men and women, who ended up bringing joy and inspiration to thousands of people.
Copenhagen
Lise Aagaard, the founder of Trollbeads, brought UNIQUES to life with glass bead projects that empower local communities globally. Lise says, “The beauty of their creations leaves me speechless.”
Dharamsala
In 2005, Trollbeads started its first UNIQUES workshop in Tibet, teaching Tibetan refugees glass bead-making. This initiative helped artisans become self-sustaining. Tsultrim Dolma shares, “Birds and feathers inspire the colours in my beads.”
Jaipur
The second UNIQUES workshop launched in Jaipur, India, in 2009, supporting women facing hardships. These women quickly learned glassmaking skills, gaining strength and independence to support their families.
Lithuania
In Lithuania, skilled glass artisans asked to design UNIQUES. They craft beads inspired by their surroundings and personal stories, adding stunning patterns that reflect their culture and emotions.
Malawi
In 2010, a new workshop opened in Malawi, Africa, to support young artisans affected by AIDS. Their bead designs echo local life, with inspiration from vibrant fabrics and exotic fruits.
Dehradun
The third India workshop, located near the Ganges and Yamuna rivers, includes Tibetan exiles, many of whom are disabled. Their beads capture Tibetan art, ornaments, and the Himalayas' natural beauty.

People’s UNIQUES is an exciting Trollbeads event. The first People's UNIQUES event took place in 2020, where people all over the world sent us images of their favourite UNIQUES glass bead. People’s UNIQUES are beads chosen by the people, uploaded by people, and voted for by people. The 6 winning beads are then produced as a one-time limited-edition collection and available until sold out. They will not be re-produced again, so get yours while you can.
